Every Saturday, she had a phone date with her sister Marielle, which lasted about 15 minutes. Usually. Both of them know the exact duration because that is how long it took her to walk from her work to her home. On beautiful days like today she usually stretched the walk and the conversation to half an hour by taking the longer route.
“Hey, I was wondering what was taking so long, got held up at work?” Marielle’s singsong voice answered the call.
“Hi, yeah, there were too many people so I decided to help out.”
“Awww, you do care, don’t look now, your niceness is showing.”
“And…now I have covered it up.”
“Why are you in such a grumpy mood missy?” Marielle was the only one who could call her missy and get away with it.
“I keep having the dream again. Almost every night now.”
“Did you tell him about it?” Marielle was also the only one who knew how she actually felt.
“No, what would I say? I keep dreaming you are breaking up with your girlfriend?”
“It is a strange dream to have.” Marielle conceded.
“It’s a bloody stupid one.”
“Wow, you only say bloody when you are super annoyed.”
“That I am.”
“What are you going to do?”
“Like that has been working so well?”
“I can’t do this Mar, not now.”
“Because our paths aren’t the same anymore.”
“That’s what you think.”
“What do you think?”
“I think your destinations are the same, but somehow you got stuck with taking the longer route.”
